Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst will determine business requirements, priorities, performance metrics, and develop BI and data warehouse (DW) strategies for our ongoing cross-agency data integration projects. This role will work with business and technical teams to design, and document dashboards, alerts, and reports. This individual is accountable for providing leadership and independent initiatives in facilitating information gathering, structured documentation and presentation of findings to all levels of management.

The ideal candidate understands what it takes to manage complex data projects and is willing to beyond the obvious, delving into the source, the definition, philosophy, and foundational roots underlying an organization’s data and systems.

Must have hands on experience in the development of new data and analytic solutions. End users of reporting systems will not be considered.


  Responsibilities

  • Elicit, document and interprets complex business requirements to determine optimal data solutions.
  • Supports or develops new data and analytic solutions using SQL, Python, R or other programming language.
  • Create high-quality work products including business system designs, functional specifications, and workflow diagrams.
  • Ability to investigate and profile poorly or undocumented data sources.
  • Explores data and discovers patterns, meaningful relationships, anomalies and trends.
  • Engage new and existing end-users about the ongoing benefits of Connect products and provide end user training as needed.
  • Perform and coordinate testing activities including develop and run test scripts, coordinate UAT and track defect/fixes.
  • Provide timely information to support senior leadership in decision making.
  • Assist in preparations for regular executive meetings to brief the Mayor’s Office of Operations on the project status.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of one or more of the following: relational database design, data warehouses, business intelligence or business analytics.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a highly professional demeanor.

Strong presentation skills.

CBAP or familiarity with IIBA standards and knowledge areas.


  Education and Experience

Computer Systems Manager M1

1. A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college and three years of progressively more responsible, fulltime, satisfactory experience using mainframe, mini- or micro-computer technology in computer applications programming,systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties;

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of experience as described in "1" above
